On Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at 12:45am, the victim, W/F, was in the
1000 block of Iberville when she was approached by an unknown black
male. The suspect produced a pistol and demanded money. The suspect
then fled into a dark red four door vehicle. The vehicle fled on
Burgundy toward Esplanade, then unknown.

The suspect is described as a black male, 20-24, 5?09?, 160lbs,
shoulder length dreadlocks, wearing a long white t-shirt and blue jean
shorts.

in an unknown direction

New Orleans police are investigating a shooting at 1233 Mandeville St. that left a 15-year-old male dead around 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

The victim was later identified as Nathaniel Burton, according to John Gagliano, a spokesman for the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office.

Police are listing Burton’s death as unclassified because the shooting may have been accidental, said officer Janssen Valencia, a Police Department spokesman.

Investigators are looking into whether Burton was playing with the gun or whether there was a struggle for the firearm between two juveniles who were also inside the home at the time, Valencia said. The juveniles were taken away for questioning, Valencia said.

Burton was found indoors on the couch with a single gunshot to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

New Orleans police have arrested 17-year-old Brandon Davis in connection with what police believe was the negligent homicide of a local 15-year-old.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of his family members. The incident occurred shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday in the 1200 block of Mandeville Street.

According to investigators, Fifth District officers responded to a call about a male who had been shot. They found the teen inside his house, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

Emergency medical technicians were called. They pronounced him dead.

Investigating detectives identified Davis as the person they believe is responsible.

Davis turned himself in at police headquarters Saturday night. Detectives transported Davis to lockup and booked him on charges of negligent homicide.

Around 4:30 p.m., police responded to a call of a shooting at the intersection of Mandeville and Marais streets, where the teenager, who has not been indentified, was found shot dead, police said.

Police on the scene said the teen was shot in the head.

Police later arrested 17-year-old Brandon Davis and charged him with negligent homicide, after Davis turned himself into police, according to an NOPD statement.

New Orleans police investigated a homicide in Algiers Saturday morning.

Officers responded to the 3300 block of Mansfield Avenue at about 12:30 a.m.

Police found a 19-year-old dead on the ground. Investigators said he had multiple gunshot wounds.

It was the second violent shooting on Mansfield Avenue in less than a month. In May, a graduation shooting left one person dead and another injured.

Investigators said they’re still looking for suspects in the case.

New Orleans police are investigating the apparent shooting death of a 19-year-old man around shortly after midnight Saturday in the Cutoff neighborhood of Algiers.

He was later identified as Joseph A. Veal, according to John Gagliano, a spokesman for the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office.

Officers responded at 12:30 a.m. to a report of a “male down” in the 3300 block of Mansfield Street and found victim lying on the ground with gunshot wounds to his body, Officer Janssen Valencia said in a news release. Emergency medical technicians pronounced the victim dead at the scene, he said. Investigators did not immediately have any suspects or motive. Homicide Detective Ryan Aucoin is in charge of the investigation. The police department is asking anyone with information to contact Crimestoppers at 504.822.1111 or toll free at 877.903.7867. Callers do not have to give their names or testify and can earn up to $2,500 for tips that lead to an indictment.

Members of the New Orleans Police Department investigated the apparent shooting death of a 19-year-old local man on Saturday, whose name s being withheld pending notification of family members.

The shooting occurred in the 3300 block of Mansfield Street at about 12:30 a.m.

According to investigators, Fourth District officers responded to a call of “male down” and upon their arrival found the victim lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds to the body.

“I just heard a lot of gunshots going off and it kind of woke me up out of my sleep,” said neighbor Sernel Burns. “Next thing I heard was police ringing the door bell asked me if I heard gunshots, I said, ‘Yes and they were loud,’ and she said, ‘Well, they hit their target.’”

Emergency medical technicians were called to the scene, where the victim was pronounced dead.

Spatters of blood stain the sidewalk where neighbors said he went door-to-door seeking help before collapsing.

“This is really, really bad what’s going on,” neighbor Dontra Henry said. “We’re not going to really have any young people after a while.”

Henry, 22, has lived on Mansfield Avenue all his life.

“I really feel bad about what’s going on out here, because I love everybody in this neighborhood and it seems like everybody is disappearing,” Henry said.

Investigators are in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the people involved in the incident, as well as a motive.

located in the 1500 block of Iberville Street. At that time, the

who brandished a silver semi-auto handgun. The suspect stated ?Give

escape with the victim?s money.

The shooting of a man shot in broad daylight Monday afternoon in the Upper Ninth Ward marked the second time the same man was shot in two months.

New Orleans police were called to the 3400 block of Urquhart Street at about 3:30 p.m.

Police sources said a bullet grazed a man’s head, but that he was up and walking around. He is expected to recover. Police said the victim has a lengthy criminal history.

Police did not immediately arrest anyone or establish a motive in the continuing investigation.

On Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at 3:00am, the victims, 2 W/Ms, were
inside a bar near the intersection of Conti and Bourbon when they were
approached by two unknown black males. One of the suspects struck the
first victim, knocking him to the ground. The suspect then took
property from the victim?s pocket. The other suspect grabbed the
wallet from the second victim?s pocket. The suspects then fled on
foot.

Responding Officers were able to apprehend the suspects Cornelius
Thompson, B/M, 12-3-80 and Jermaine Lewis, B/M, 7-21-82, who were
arrested and charged in this offense. Additional information on these

The victims were unsure of which bar they were in when the incident
occurred.

A father of two was killed this morning outside of an Algiers convenience store in what authorities believe was a robbery attempt.

Family members identified the victim as 48-year-old Robert Wimsatt. He was found outside of Lawson’s Grocery and Deli in the 1600 block of Newton Street at about 10:15 a.m. Police are still searching for a suspect in the incident.

Wimsatt, who was lying in front of his silver Toyota Forerunner in the business’s parking lot, was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital, said Officer J.R. Valencia, New Orleans police spokesman. Wimsatt owned several ATMs in the New Orleans area and was servicing one of his machines inside the store before the shooting, according to family members.

Wimsatt’s family said that his death robbed the world of a generous and kind man who disdained violence despite having to carry a gun because of the business he was in. Ann Van Lamsweerde described herbrother as a quiet and subdued man whose dry wit still managed to draw people to him.

“He was a good man,” she said. “Anybody who knew him was just immediately struck by the fact that he was very, very kind.”

She said Wimsatt had owned and operated ATMs for about six to eight years after deciding to get out of the pay telephone business. He had serviced the machine at Lawson’s several times and understood it was a neighborhood with a checkered past. Nearby residents have complained that drug dealers often loiter in the area and shooting can erupt without warning.

Family members said Wimsatt recently had begun carrying a handgun in his vehicle for protection, and had also asked several of the businesses where his ATMs were located to install cameras inside and outside. However, Lawson’s did not have an exterior camera, they said.

Van Lamsweerde said her brother worried about his safety because his vehicle had been burglarized previously and he had been robbed at gunpoint. In that incident, the robber dropped the bag of money, and several people scooped it up as it blew in the wind, she said.

“He tried to be very, very safe. He tried to be proactive,” Van Lamsweerde said. “But, he wasn’t a violent type of person.”

Wimsatt, who has two daughters, doted on his 1-year old grandson, his sister said. The toys strewn around his home attested to the fact that the youngster was a frequent and active visitor. Wimsatt also was an avid tennis player who enjoyed hiking and stamp collecting.

His sister said that Wimsatt and his wife had begun to discuss moving to Tennessee where they had recently purchased a home, but no definite plans had been made. Van Lamsweerde said that police have told them they are confident that they will locate a suspect because the shooting happened early in the day on the heavily traveled street. She hopes that some information comes soon.

“It was just so sudden,” Van Lamsweerde said.

Authorities are looking for a dark colored Mitsubishi Montero SUV, possibly green or black with gold trim. The vehicle was last seen on Diana Street headed toward L.B. Landry Avenue.

NEW ORLEANS – The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office has identified the 48-year-old man who was shot to death while he attempted to fill up an ATM machine at an Algiers grocery store with cash Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred in front of Lawson’s Grocery and Deli in the 1600 block of Newton Street.

John Gagliano, chief coroner, said the victim was Robert Wimsatt. He regularly filled up the ATM machine at Lawson’s Grocery and Deli, according to Mousa Abdel, the store’s owner.

“The man, he came with the money and that’s why they probably tried to rob him,” said store owner Mousa Abdel. “He probably didn’t want to give the money away, that’s why they shot him. Somebody wait for him. Somebody know him. We don’t know. Maybe they saw him when he came out of the car with the money and that’s what happened.”

Addel said Wimsatt had been filling the machine with cash twice a week for the past three years. He was the owner of an ATM company and was at the grocery filling up the machine when he was shot, according to NOPD spokesman Gary Flot.

Abdel says the victim was unarmed.

“He would never come with a gun,” said Abdel. “He would never have a gun at his side. He come in just like anybody.”

Police said when officers arrived, the man was lying face down with several gun shot wounds. The victim was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Evidence at the scene included several bullet casings in the parking lot.

Witnesses told Eyewitness News that a dark-colored green or black Mitsubishi Montero SUV was seen leaving the area shortly after the shooting.

Man Shot Dead In Front Of Algiers Store

A man arriving at a corner store in Algiers to refill the ATM with cash was shot to death in an apparent robbery attempt, police said.

It happened Tuesday morning in front of Lawson’s General Store in the 1600 block of Newton Street, according to New Orleans police investigators.

The victim, who owned an ATM servicing business, was shot several times as he got out of his car in the parking lot, police said.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he later died. His name has not yet been released.

Abdel Mousa, owner of Lawson’s General Store, said he believes someone planned on robbing the victim.

“Nobody kills for nothing,” said Abdel Mousa. “They probably saw him coming out with the bags of money in his hands and tried to take the money from him.”

Mousa and his workers heard the gunshots early Tuesday morning. When they went outside, they found the man shot in the head.

“We knew he had cash for that machine over there, but he didn’t get in by that time,” said store employee Joe Rasul. “His job was to fill up the machine, and that’s why we think it was a robbery.”

The 48-year-old victim had been filling up the machine at Lawson’s for more than two years.

“Probably one day somebody was watching him or following him,” Mousa said.

The workers said although he carried large sums of cash, the victim never carried a gun.

“You have to be aware of your surrounding and never take wherever you go for granted, especially when you deal with that kind of business,” said store employee Tony Ruzzo.

Police said a dark-colored Mitsubishi Montero SUV was seen leaving the area, driven by an unknown man. It was last seen driving on Diana Street toward L.B. Landry Street.

Another possible suspect was seen walking away from the scene.

On Monday, June 15, 2009, at 10:00pm, the victim, W/M, was walking in
the 800 block of St Peter when he was approached by two unknown black
males. One of the suspects produced an unknown object, believed to be
a handgun, and placed the object to the victim?s back and demanded
money. The victim replied that he did not have any valuables on him
and both suspects fled on foot.

At 10:04pm, the second victim, W/M, was walking in the 800 block of St
Ann when he was approached by two unknown black males. One of the
suspects produced an unknown object, believed to be a handgun, and
placed the object to the victim?s back and demanded money. The victim
took money out of his pocket, which was taken by the second suspect.
Both suspects then fled on foot.

Responding Officers were able to apprehend the suspect who was
arrested and charged in both incidents. Due to the suspect being a
juvenile, no further information will be released.

The other suspect is described as a black male, shoulder length
dreads, dark complexion, and wearing a blue and white polo shirt.
